Hello, I am still here

June is our last "official" month of "school" for the year. (Public school ended June 3rd here) We of course will still be learning over the summer. We'll do a math lesson a day, an english lesson a day and there will be plenty of nature studying going on.

Since I have decided to homeschool this year (Grades: Preschool, 1st, 3rd and 5th) I will have to get lessons prepared and books perchased.

Over the summer, I plan on going through "ALL" of my homeschool materials, weeding out the old and adding some new. Our homeschool area is located in the dining room, so I am setting up those areas and organizing. I have an art corner, with cubbies and shelves. All my art, crafts and supplies along with my art books are located in this area. I am setting up a nature corner, with 4 shelves, to hold nature books, materials, handbooks, and one shelf will be strictly our nature shelf ~ (findings when we go out).  I want to incorpororate this year a white erase board with a magnetic section and a 3 huge bulliton boards and a weekly bulliton board that displays all the rescent work and themes we are working on.

 

This summer we will also be taking several trips this year, including the Science Museum, the Zoo and the children will be going to my mom, on the farm, for two weeks as well as some other events we have planned.

 

Once we get closer to September I'll set aside a whole weekend to finish last minute details;  including setting up the famous file crate system, you can see exactly how she does it, amazing lady, thanks Dawn and I will also be finishing up on some last minute purchases to be bought at the craft store and prepare the room for a whole new exciting year. (Our first day of the new year will be Monday, August 17th.)

Just a note: Last year I had planned on homeschooling, if you read my last post before this one you will see that did not happen. I can honestly say that the Lord knows what He is doing. I went through the birth of my daughter September 4th, 08, she was beautfiul and healthy, but I have had many health issues since then. I rescently on May 6, 09 had a COMPLETE hysterectomy, so I am still recovering. I think back and wonder why God wouldn't have had me to homeschool and now I can look at the past year and see exactly why. He is awesome, wonderful, and greatly to be praised. Thank you God for always knowing how to take care of me and also my family.

School Has Begun Again

Well, school has begun and lessons have taken way.  I am sad to say that my plans to homeschool completely this year did not go as planned.  But that is ok, I have many educational plans that I had intended to do and will continue to do them on the weekends.

We have many family trips planned and so we will work around what God has allowed.  I plan on doing many arts and craft projects, as well as a bird unit study and I will also continue our Faith Lessons. That is just a smidgen of what is in store. I am rather excited as to the journey that God has put us on, so I plan on making the most of what He has set up.  I am ever thankful to my Heavenly Father because He always knows what is in our best interest and I trust Him enough to lead me on this journey.

So stay tuned this school year I will be posting everything here about what our educational life is like. Lets just say that this year should be quite unique, very educational, and very busy!

I consider our homeschool style to be quite Eclectic. A traditional definition of "eclectic" from the Webster's Unabridged English Dictionary says, "Made up of or combining elements from a variety of sources." So it is only fitting to say that an eclectic homeschooler is one who looks at the different approaches and methods of homeschooling and takes from each forming his/her own unique philosophy.

Our Homeschool Days involve alot of Reading, Arts and Crafts, Our Faith, as well as Nature Walks, we love nature.

First and foremost we do what we do because of Jesus. He is our foundation and center. So everything I teach comes from His perspective.

As mentioned before our teaching style is Eclectic, with Montessori, Charlotte Mason and Classical techiniques, messianic faith centered, all this marinated in alot of living books, unit studies and LOTS of Nature!

We are a very simple, creative and artsy family. When we learn, regardless of the subject, I try to make an activity that is hands on and creative. That way the information sticks.

Like I mentioned earlier we are a reading family, it is not unlike us to have atleast 60 books from the library just for the children! That's atleast 10 books a piece, per child.

Most importantly we enjoy spending time together and enjoying what God blesses us freely with everyday: LIFE (eachother, those around us and nature).

This site will be a gathering place for all our school related activity.  Field trips, homeschool meetings, any outings we take and what we are learning. I will place  our monthly school plans here, our theme of the month and what we hope to accomplish for that month. So I hope you enjoy.
